Bube's "The Human Quest" contains helpful information (more than just a
little) about the humanities and social sciences. The overall approach is,
to deny "reductionism," the tendeny to think that we're all just applied
chemistry and physics.
"Ultimate meaning," as Bube presents it, is in terms of persons--God and
human beings--not matter and energy. Highest on his disciplinary ladder is
theology, followed by sociology and anthropology, with physics & chemistry
at the bottom.
