[asa] Dawkins and PZ Myers and bigotry.

I'm wondering if Pim might like to comment on this further clear evidence of
bigotry from Dawkins and PZ Myers, whom Dawkins evidently admires much - the
following was a piece of doggerel that Dawkins composed in honour of Myers's
50th Birthday :-

---
All around the World Wide Web, the wingnuts get the crepys,
As the faith-heads take a drubbing from our era's Samuel Pepys,
That sceptical observer of the scene about the wyers,
At Pharyngula, the singular redoubt of P Z Myers.
---
As to Myers himself, here is a pretty good indication of his views -
extracted from the Wikipedia discussion page as a Myers quote that was
removed - apparently too inflammatory for a Wikipedia article...
(the asterisks were not present in the original)
----
"Next time your brother, or your sister-in-law, or your grandmother, or some
guy in the booth next to you at the coffeeshop, starts talking about the
Rapture or the End Times or the Second Coming or whatever crap they want to
call it, just stand up, turn to them, and say loudly and clearly so everyone
around you can hear it, YOU ARE A DEMENTED F***WIT. And walk away. Treat
them as the pariahs they should be. This will be especially effective if you
do it in your church. Don't argue with them. Don't waste any effort on them.
Just make your contempt loud and clear. It's not hard. And when the
conversation with others turns to those nitwits, don't wrestle with their
mental problems at all. Just say, THEY ARE DEMENTED F***WITS. It's a message
we need to get out there more."
----
This is the person that Dawkins admires so much as to describe him as "our
era's Samuel Pepys".
There are three very sincere Christians in the house-group I lead with my
wife, who adhere to a Young Earth Creationist position. I was asked if I
could give a presentation on Creation/Evolution, and in this presentation I
said I thought that "creation science" was wishful thinking (as indeed is a
lot of science, like Cold Fusion). Perhaps I should have gone further and
told them they were demented f***wits? What do you think I should have
done, Pim?
BTW I also read that in the preface of The God Delusion Dawkins states that
if the book does its job properly then any Christian who reads his book they
will be an atheist by the end. However, Dawkins admits that this is
hopelessly optimistic, and that died in the wool faith-heads will never be
persuaded.
So, Pim, since you are reading the God Delusion (as I fully intend to do as
well) I guess that if by the end of it you're not an atheist, that you, too
are a faith-head. I suggest that when reading Dawkins you take off the
rose-tinted spectacles, lest people start accusing you of being a
Dawkins-head. (perish the thought!!)
