Glenn posted this quotation from Collins: ""While many scientists
ascribe to TE, they are in general reluctant to speak
out for fear of negative reaction from their scientific peers, or
perhaps for fear of criticism from the theological community."
Francis Collins, The Language of God, (New York: Free Press, 2006),
p. 202"
FWIW, I am not sure I agree with Collins. It may be true of some; is
it true of many? A majority?
Speaking only for myself, I do not recall being "ashemed of the
gospel" after the first year folowing my conversion (at age 31). I
may have been somewhat reticent during that first year, but memories
are faint. Within the IBM community I do not EVER recall negative
critisms for my Christian positions, which I sometimes perhaps
expressed too forcefully! <G> I DO recall positive feedback on many
occasions, even from one guy I knew who was an "ignostic."
Collin's quote might be reacted to by others who have had different
experiences.
