And why shouldn't evangelicals listen? When the threat of terrorism
came forward, evangelicals disproportionally volunteered for the
armed services. It's the "red state" evangelicals who
disproportionally give to charity. Genocide in Darfur. Evangelicals
were concerned. Volunteering for mission work to help the poor.
Evangelicals heed the call. In short, costly sacrifice is a language
we understand quite well. We are talking about something due to human
greed could cause hundreds of millions of environmental refugees.
Evangelicals have another word from our common lexicon to describe
this, sin. So, yes, evangelicals are outraged by the faux sacrifice
by some in Hollywood. But, we respond with real sacrifice to show the
world how its done. That which is done to the least of our brethren
is done to our Lord. So, yes, we heard, we listened, and we responded
to Sir John Houghton. How could we do otherwise? That's the why
behind the poll numbers where a majority of evangelicals believe in
anthropogenic climate change and that we should respond quickly even
if it's costly, because we know the world doesn't believe in costly
sacrifice but the followers of Jesus Christ both evangelical and not do.
