[asa] List moderation

OK everyone. I just approved a bunch of posts with taboo political
words. I'm not really keen on doing that in the future.

There's no need for you to declare what political party your in --
unless you have some "political" agenda. When you respond to people
who declared their politcal party your post gets put in the moderated
bin. There's no need to declare what party controls Congress --
unless you have some "political" agenda in pointing it out. When you
quote someone who declares what party controls Congress, your post
gets put in the moderated bin.

In general, we discourage length quotes from previous posts. If
people are following the thread then the quote is in the email that
is being answered. Only quote the previous post if it is critical to
the sense of your post.

You get the point. i'm probably not going to post the next batch that
comes through.

And, by the way, while I understand that Cc'ing various discussion
participants is a way around the moderation policies it does
introduce confusion into the discussion. I would encourage everyone
to post to the list and not Cc: at all. If you want to engage someone
privately, then email them directly without Cc'ing to the list. Let's
have some recognition of the public side of this list. Moderation
policy an organizational (ASA) decision and is not something to be
skirted around with euphemisms and words containing asterisks. (How
much do you appreciate spam that gets through your filters because
the spammer is trying to stay one step ahead of the spam filters?) We
have the rules and the taboo words defined as they are for a reason,
if you are on the edge and you think your post is okay you can ask me
about it (and if I'm getting behind in my moderating you can remind
me to deal with it).

Also, just a reminder that this list is sponsored by the ASA. Many of
you are members--some of you are not. Clearly, we allow non-member
particpation at the present time. Joining us signals common cause
(although there is great diversity in the ASA). In general, we expect
