Many names do have a descriptive meaning. Utnapishtim in Akkadian and
Ziusudra in Sumerian both pertain to Noah and mean, "he who found long
life." I don't know Adamu beyond a personal name, although the
Sumerians described a list of slaves as the "adambi." Presumably, they
would be non-Sumerian and therefore Akkadian. We can only guess that it
refers to their ancestry. And in Sumerian "adam" means "pasture land,"
paralleling the Hebrew "adamah" which means "ground." Thus Adam from
the ground as described in Genesis all fits in.
