This article in yesterday's Guardian talks about the IPCC report.

I was interested to hear the climatologists talk about the IPCC report last
week. The reason for the slight reduction in the predicted rise of sealevel
has to do with the models of thermal expansion of the oceans. Those models
have been greatly refined recently and better simulations have slightly
reduced the expectation of sealevel rising due to this component. What is
interesting is that the IPCC model depends almost totally on thermal
expansion and hasn't yet incorporated the effects of significant melting of
polar ice. That means that in the future as this effect is added, the
prediction is likely to increase considerably.
