[One point of confusion: the argument about osmium oxide was being
used against Denton, not by him]

The argument overlooks the possibility that, used properly, osmium
oxide is good for something. Contrary to the premise of many
lawsuits, the fact that misuse is possible does not disprove good
intention and reasonable effort on the part of the manufacturer.

The erroneous argument is used in the reverse direction in some
creationist antienvironmental arguments. E.g., God made the chemistry
allowing us to make pesticides, so they must be safe.
