Gregory,
My initial post in this thread was a tangential observation on which I had been ruminating for some time and as I read the different posts in this thread, I was motivated out of my lurking mode to share this random thought. Although it was your post that I used to tie my ideas into this thread, I really wasn't directing these observations against you. My appologies if it appeared that I was jumping into the fray as one of the 'geologists against social scientists'.
I freely admit that my perspectives are narrow and parochial. As such I rarely post to this list since I don't feel qualified to speak on many of the issues discussed until someone brings up a "geology" question. One of the reasons that I have remained on the ASA discussion list for many years is the breadth of expertise and perspectives that can occasionally be brought into a discussion. I need to hear these issues from the perspective of social scientists, philosophers, biologists, astronomers, lawyers, theologians, educators, ID theorists, young earth creationists, ... etc -- even when the discussions become heated. It is those thoughtful posts, often though not always written after a slight delay, that I most appreciate. Thank you for your lastest contribution to my education.
Steve
