Consider the following possibilities:
God created all organisms through a process physically describable by
evolution.
God created the laws of nature and let them produce evolution.
God exists but is not involved in physical processes.
God produced everything in a way that looks misleadingly like evolution.
Any of the above are fully compatible both with physical evidence for
evolution and belief in a god of some sort. Thus, to conclude that
evolution implies atheism is wrong. It merely fails to rule out atheism.
I'm dubious that evolution even provides an intellectually coherent
atheism. On the one hand, there were intelligent atheists before 1859. On
the other hand, evolution doesn't adequately address many important issues.
