ICRs "Acts & Facts" Summary - October 2006

PRESIDENT'S COLUMN: Creation Evangelism This Christmas

John Morris writes: "In this column I have often discussed the use of
creation in evangelism; in fact, how creation is foundational to the
whole Christian message." He goes on to recommend tracts from ICR to
send
out with your Christmas cards.

IMPACT No. 400 - Presidential Support for Creationism

Jerry Bergman writes: "Several recent American presidents have openly
supported creation thinking. A few "on the record" statements of these
presidents in support of their belief in creationism are reviewed
below."

Quotes are from Eisenhower, Carter, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.

www.icr.org/article/2942/ has the text. Bergman cites an 1898 book from
Ike's church when he was a youth but cites no Ike YEC statement. He
cites
from Carter statements that sound like an endorsement of ID. Reagan's
quotes are anti-evolution and an endorsement of teaching
"creationism" in
schools. The famous James Watt is also quoted as saying "We believers in
the Old Testament want the theories of both evolution and Creation
taught. . . ."

Bush I is quoted as saying "...it seems to me tat the Bible has an
abundance of clues and evidence to help archeologists, astronomers and
other scientists ... ." And Bush II openly supported the teaching of
creationism alongside evolution in the public schools. Interestingly,
Gore and Lieberman supported his views.

BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 214(a) - Are All Men Created Equal?

John Morris writes: "It is good to remind ourselves, from time to time,
that the foundational charter of America, the Declaration of
Independence, is a creationist
document." See the rest of his views at http://www.icr.org/article/2943/
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 214(b) - Creation and the Bird Flu

Frank Sherwin writes: "We are all familiar with the unpleasant viral
condition called influenza, or the flu. Adam and Eve were not created
with viral diseases. Such
pathogens were the result of the Fall (Genesis 3)." He has some
speculations on how flu virus changes over time. See it at
http://www.icr.org/article/2944/

-
-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 214(c) - The Fossil Record: Commending the Gnostics

Bill Hoesch writes: "What a man does with the fossil record tells a lot
about his worldview. Is it the result of a world-covering deluge? Or did
this sorry chronicle of
pain, suffering, and death precede humans (and the reign of death) by
millions of years?"

You can probably guess his answer. Anyone who rejects the YEC view is
simply a modern gnostic. See www.icr.org/article/2945/

-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 214(d) - Mature at Birth: Universe Discredits
Evolution

David Coppedge writes: "Critics of recent creation ridicule the belief
that a universe so vast, composed of so many diverse phenomena and
processes running at diverse
rates, could be fit into a few thousand years. They are less likely to
acknowledge the many and severe problems with an old, evolutionary
universe." Read his speculations at http://www.icr.org/article/2946/

And so it goes. There is also a "last word" from Henry. One more book,
finished while he was on his deathbed. One more set of trees meet an
untimely end to print this stuff.
