From Christopher Sharp: "What do YECs think about the Cambrian
explosion?"

I can't say for YEC's, but I can tell what some YEC's said and did when
biology textbooks came up for adoption in Texas a few years back.

Several speakers for including "Strengths AND weaknesses" of evolution,
were associated with the Greater Houston Creation Association:
http://www.ghcaonline.com/

If you look at the site you see it is a young earth group. I pulled their
documents from the Secretary of State at one point and their articles
of incorporation state that any residual after the winding up of the
corporation would go to ICR.

Anyway, their website was down most of the time that the process
was unwinding and a different website was operational:
http://www.strengthsandweaknesses.org/ . They claimed the GHCA
site was down because it had been hacked by evolutionists, IIRC.
At any rate, they disavowed any relationship with GHCA. In fact, there
was a board of education member who asked them about any
association with groups other than "Texans for Better Science Education".

As to the Cambrian Explosion and the age of the earth: They were
meticulous about not attacking conventional dating of the age of the
earth. One made a comment about the Cambrian Explosion being
an evidence for the weakness of evolution because of the "sudden"
appearance of a variety of organisms (basically, the Jonathan Wells'
discussion of the Cambrian Explosion). Then there was an
exchange over "when" the Cambrian Explosion occurred, and the
individual stated that he accepted the standard dating and that
"his organization, the TBSE" had nothing to do with Young Earth
Creationism. Basically they appear to have accepted and
subscribed to the "big Tent" strategy of being coy about the age
of the earth, and sticking to attacking evolution.

That said, don't Young Earth Creationists cite the Cambrian
Explosion as a proof against evolution, they just think there are different
dates involved?
