ICR "Acts & Facts" - August 2006

-------
PRESIDENT'S COLUMN: A Dynamic Stage

John Morris writes: "ICR has entered a very dynamic stage of its
ministry." His article announces the appointment of Ed Miller as the new
ICR Chief Operations Officer, replacing Larry Vardiman, who returns to
research.

-------
IMPACT No. 398 - Do Volcanoes Come in Super-Size?

Austin and Hoesch write: "Geologists have long known that explosive
volcanoes of the past were far bigger than the relatively tepid eruptions
known from human recorded experience. As a new generation of geologists
wonder about the mechanics of supervolcanoes some ICR geologists are also
wondering about a gigantic volcanic ash pile -- the Brushy Basin Member
of the Morrison Formation." They posit that supervocanos erupted during
the Flood. "The record is best interpreted in durations of days or weeks,
not millions of years. The Genesis Flood provides the historical
framework ... ."

-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 212(a) - Did Darwin Renounce Evolution on His
Deathbed?

John Morris writes: "The story has circulated for decades. Charles
Darwin, after a career of promoting evolution and naturalism, returned to
the Christianity of his youth, renouncing on his deathbed the theory of
evolution. The story
appears to have been authored by a 'Lady Hope,' and relates how she
visited him near the end and received his testimony."

To his credit, John concedes that the story is without foundation. He
also writes of the passing of the late Carl Sagan.

-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 212(b) - Giving an Answer

Frank Sherwin writes: "Everyone holds to a worldview -- a philosophical
outlook on life -- no matter how ill-defined. Whether one is a believer
or not, their worldview is formed and molded by their family, culture,
education, books they read, etc." After claiming there are only two
options, creation and Darwinism, Sherwin launches into a diatribe against
"American business practices" which are, he asserts, based on Darwinism.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 212(c) - Arctic Heat Wave

Bill Hoesch writes: "Drill cores from beneath the floor of the Arctic
Ocean have revealed a startling find. Fossils from around the 430 meter
mark indicate the seabed was once a balmy 23 degrees centigrade (74
degrees Fahrenheit)!" Bill argues that these findings fit in well with
the YEC view.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
BACK TO GENESIS: BTG 212(d) - Titan vs. Billions of Years

David Coppedge writes: "The landing of the Huygens probe on Saturn's
moon, Titan ranks as one of the most dramatic achievements in space
exploration. When Voyager flew by in 1981, Titan looked like a hazy ball
at visible wavelengths. Its surface lay shrouded in mystery for 24 years,
as scientists tried to model what would happen under a nitrogen-rich
atmosphere spiked with methane. The difference between what they expected
and what Huygens discovered should be of great interest to creationists."
David argues that the predictions made using long-age assumptions were
wildly off base. The point is made that David works at the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory (they do not indicate in what capacity).

There is also an article on ICR's educational mission by John Morris. A
"Distance Educational Curriculum" is close to eing finalized. John notes
that polls now show that the vast majority of Americans hold to some form
of creation. But he does not note any detail on this claim. Details and
qualifications are not usually part of the ICR propaganda.
