From what I recall when YEC Prof. Andy MacIntosh came to preach at our
church, he insisted (loudly) that TWO types of death came into the world at
the Fall. Literally "on that day" Adam died (spiritually) and then his
physical death came 900+ years later, and this was also a consequence of the
Fall. He also claimed that the two deaths were mirrored on the Cross - as I
recall - the spiritual death being at "My God my God why hast thou forsaken
me", and the physical one when he said "It is finished". I don't recall any
scriptural justification being made for this claim.
Lots of people were upset and angered, and we spent a whole evening
discussing it with the housegroup we lead. It certainly made us think about
our faith, but little sympathy could be found for MacIntosh's views! Our
church usually posts sermons on our website at
http://www.christchurch-abingdon.org.uk/ , however, that one didn't make it
... can't imagine why :-)
