There was I thinking that Janice had actually constructed an original
argument. Then half way through I began to recognise Holding's distinctive
style.
Janice, why not, for a change use your brain instead of just pasting in
large quotes from someone else as a substitute for thought. It wouldn't
have taken much effort to summarise the salient points of Holding's argument
in a couple of lines? How about:
"In J.P. Holding's article at <link> he argues that love isn't just about
being sentimental and kind to people. Sometimes real love means offering a
sharp rebuke, and you can find many examples of this in Paul's letters and
Jesus's sayings".
Now that wouldn't have been much effort would it, and it would have
demonstrated you can think for yourself before you hit the paste button.
It would also save a lot of bandwidth for those people on the list who only
have a modem and have to wait a long time to download your excessively long
posts that only contain one or two lines actually written by you.
<end of sharp rebuke>
BTW while I'm about it, I think it was Michael who asked who J.P. Holding is
some time back. His real name is Bob Turkel & he's a creationist (though
sometimes is a bit cagey about that). The Wikipedia entry at the following
link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._P._Holding
gives the necessary information.
I think Jonathan Sarfati of AiG has used some of Holding's arguments to
justify calling people "pillocks" in his posts on Theology Web under the
name "Socrates".
But then that's perfectly OK. I'm sure if Paul and Jesus were alive today,
they'd be calling people "pillocks" to demonstrate what real "Agape" is all
about... <end of ironic rhetorical section>
