While working in Ireland this summer, I've had a chance to hike around some
of the neolithic tombs in the Burren region. It's amazing that you can hike
right up to these 5,000 year old tombs, without another soul in sight, and
climb in and around them. There are also remains near many of the tombs of
small circular enclosures that probably were neolithic houses -- you can
walk through the cow pastures and just stand in the middle of these places
where families sat by the hearth thousands of years ago. This really caught
my fancy about the netolithic, and I'm wondering if anyone here could
recommend a good general text or monograph about that time period.
