[asa] Looking for a Good Quote on Science as a Spiritual / Truth-seeking Enterprise

I'm looking for a good, pithy quote, preferably from a well-known
scientific figure, on how the practice of science is at its best a
"spiritual" quest for truth. The context is the paper I'm writing on
virtue ethics and biotechnology law. One component of virtue ethics
is the notion of "practices," which entail "internal goods" related to
the "practice." "Internal goods" are not things like money or fame,
but rather are more intangible rewards such as joy, satisfaction,
peace, etc.

Thanks.
