Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. For the foreseeable future, we
will continue this email discussion as it is, though I would encourage Terry
to be a bit tougher in enforcing the current regulations, including the 4
posts per day. I would also like all of us to do a much better job of
adhering to the ASA commitment "to providing an open forum where
controversies can be discussed without fear of unjust condemnation.
Legitimate differences of opinion among Christians who have studied both the
Bible and science are freely expressed within the Affiliation in a context
of Christian love and concern for truth." (from the statement of faith on
the ASA website) Calling each other names or demeaning each other's
character is not an acceptable substitute for the vigorous debate in love
and concern for truth. We do that much too often and it hurts the group as
a whole while doing nothing to strengthen the argument. Terry, feel free to
temporarily suspend anyone that you feel goes overboard on this. Maybe we
should be like the World Cup. Two yellow cards in the first round and you
sit out the second round.
That being said, it doesn't at all preclude us from doing more discussion
groups of a different nature as blogs or other types of forums. We are
planning to significantly upgrade our website and Terry is working on a
better content management system. We'll be asking our members for more
suggestions and we'll probably try a few different ideas and see which ones
work. By setting up other groups with different models, they won't compete
directly with this group but will complement and hopefully grow the overall
participation.
