Greetings:

Some 30+ messages have appeared since Charle/s Cardigan registered/ his
frustration last Friday.

The ASA list began in the Fall of 1993 as Calvin College allowed Terry
Gray (then on the Chemistry faculty) to use software and space on
the Calvin system to discuss science and religion.

The goal was to enable the ~1500 ASA members and other qualified people
(translate: 'THE WORLD") to participate. A look at the
earliest achieve (Jan. 94) shows 357 messages; May 06 492 messages .
The threads with the most attention were *The Grand Canyon*, *inerrancy,
Zechariah, real science*,
and the *oil shortage problem*. The participants - primarily the same
crowd that floods your screen today.

That the major participants have hung on and the topics with some
exceptions remained constant is not unexpected. This is true of most
lists. So is
the presence of occasional bad behavior and diarrhea of the keyboard.

This list was established (as most ASA things are) as a bottom up
function - no grand master shaping the flow of chatter. When we began
the ASA
web presence there was little to fall back on except the < talk.origins>
project. The fact that the list (and the ASA) seldom comes to any
conclusions
frustrates all of us. Yet that seems to be the game at the moment.
Perhaps I exaggerate.

To this point I have not heard any suggestions that would warrant a
change in our mode of operation. There has been much of value that is
off the radar screen.

If nothing else, future historians can search the archives to find out
what evangelicals were talking about. Keep up the good work Terry!
