I don't see any fundamental difference between Paul, and George, and
myself. I believe the confusion arises when accommodation is viewed as
an a priori exegetical framework which it is not. Just like you say
that your interpretation is possible rather than true the same is true
for accommodation interpretations. The original recipients and authors
of Scripture neither knew nothing nor everything about which they
wrote. This leaves a spectrum of possible interpretations along the
accommodation/concord axis and differs from verse to verse. For
example, your concord view of a local flood forces accommodation in
interpreting 2 Peter 2:5 in that it is fairly evident that Peter's use
of the term world implied he didn't believe in a local flood. Welcome
to our team. :-)
You may see mutually contradicting interpretations because we don't
necessarily concur which verses are accommodated and which verses are
not. For example, I would be more inclined to a concordist
interpretation of Genesis 1-11 than George. Nevertheless, where we are
united is that the accommodationist approach can be valid and using
your words such interpretations are possible but not necessarily true.
This is what I mean that the concordist and accommodationalist
approaches are complementary where we might be able to correct our
respective errors. I have found that it is far easier to see other's
errors than our own and thus we can watch each other's backs.
