So marriage is a construct of those in power to ensure their position of
power? I agree that marriage or any formal relationship strenghtens
human families. In the Netherlands we have extended the concept of
marriage to include any two people who are willing to share their lives
in a loving and caring relationship and provided the choice of marriage
or partnerships with all rights and responsibilities to all.
Institutionalized marriage is not without its flaws, and has let to much
grief as well.

In other words, it reduces the political and economical powers of such
groups. And it also provides human beings with the choice and power to
participate as equals amongst peers rather than as subordinates.
