Isn't doing what Dick does, better than simply saying that the account tells us
stories that didn't happen, but that it is still true anyway?

I count Glenn and Dick as good friends, and I would submit that Glenn's
approach is also better than just claiming the account is true (theologically
or whatever) anyway. Glenn and Dick have both done extensive research. Both
their models leave some things to be desired, but we can learn from the
research they did. Glenn's "Adam, Apes and Anthropology" is well worth reading
(so is "Foundation, fall and flood")
