<snip> As I stated before, YEC organizations have increasingly been moving
from a defensive stance in
which they see themselves as providing comfort to the lay Christian to
one that is stressing "creation evangelism" to evangelize though
creation. For them to expect the non-believe to be converted by hearing
the "good news" of a young earth would seem to require that the evidence
for the young earth must actually appear to support a young earth to a
person that doesn't already have the right presuppositions.

Ted comments:
I agree with the stress on "creation evangelism," but I don't agree that
this is a new emphasis.

I have in hand a copy of Kent Hovind's "book" called "Creation Science
Evangelism," a seminar notebook ca. 2000 whose title does indicate his whole
purpose. Granted, this is relatively recent, but let me add a second
example that is not at all recent. I refer to Henry Morris' first book,
which I also have at hand. Morris' book, which my mother had as a text at
Wheaton in 1947, bears the following title on the front cover, as follows:

THAT *You* MIGHT BELIEVE, where the *You* is italicized and written as such
(upper case and lower case), while the rest of the title is in square block
capital letters. I quote from the preface, dated January 1946:

"In attempting to maintain an effective witness for Christ on a university
campus, I have felt a real need for a book setting forth some of the more
convincing evidences for the inspiration of the Bible and the truth of
Christianity, a rational and conclusive refutation of the pseudo-scientific
teaching against the Bible which the modern college student must meet, and
finally, a setting forth of the basic truths of God's way of salvation and
His eternal plan, as revealed in His inspired Word."

I rest my case.
