Blaise Pascal - 'Men despise religion; they hate it , and fear tht it is
true. To remedy this, we must begin by showing that religion is not contrary
to reason; that it is venerable, to inspire respect for it; then we must
make it lovable, to make good men hope it is true.
Venerable, because it has perfect knowledge of man; lovable, because it
promises the true good.'
I find this to be profound.
Others hate our religion, and many 'Christians' fuel that hate by stressing
exclusion, instead of inclusion, and by denying facts, that are obvious to
those to whom they preach (or scream).
Yet, Christianity IS true, and the spirit niggles in the hearts and souls of
those who deny it. The result is a need to slap it down - because they
cannot ally themselves with something which they hate so much.
To combat this, we should make Christianity lovable. I remember several
great revivals. They were definitely driven by a 'new' and lovable approach.
The Bible does not tell the whole truth of God; it tells the whole truth of
man.
That is an amazing statement.
'The Bible was written as an instruction book.' has been said many times.
But, the restatement seems completely different.
The Bible has perfect knowledge of man.
