Here is your monthly YEC fix:

ICR "Acts & Facts" - May 2006

John Morris's cover letter quotes Will Provine as writing: "Belief in modern evolution makes atheists of people. One can have a religious view that is compatible with evolution only if that religious view is indistinguishable from atheism."

John says that quote makes his blood boil.

PRESIDENT'S COLUMN: Building on a Firm Foundation

"The February 25 homegoing of my father, Dr. Henry Morris, was not
unexpected, but neither were we ready to let him go. At 87, his vigor and
battle readiness had waned somewhat, as he succumbed to the relentless
onslaught of entropy, but the last few days before he died, as he realized
he would never regain everything his two recent strokes had taken, he
wanted to go. His eyes were as firmly fixed on heaven's gates as they had
always been on the goal of restoring Scripture and creation thinking to
their rightful place in men's minds."

John continues with tributes to his father. A "Henry Morris Center" is planned. The memorial service was attended by John Whitcomb and Tim LaHaye and, by recording, by James Kennedy. A DVD of the service is available.

Sidebar: A Masters degree in Science Education begins. On March 20, 2006, the course "Advanced Educational Psychology" was started. Sort of reminds me of Rush Limbaugh's "Advanced Conservative Thinking." About the same credibility.

ORIGINS: Spiral Wonder of the Spider Web. By Frank Sherwin.

"Here's an easy recipe: take food, metabolically convert it into sticky
glue. Then, allow air to contact it while rapidly stretching it into an
impossibly narrow, nimble thread as strong as steel. There you have it --
spider silk. We tend to take for granted the incredible detail and beauty
of a typical spider web. The Creator designed most species of spider to
secrete a special thread (web) that scientists have long appreciated and
have attempted to emulate. They have found that web strands are comparable
in strength to fused quartz fibers."

Frank goes on to argue the case for fiat creation of the spider.

IMPACT # 395: The History and Impact of the Book, "The Genesis Flood"

It is hard to believe that there have been 395 separate editions of this series, one a month since -- 32 years and 11 months! This one is authored by John Whitcomb.

"The Genesis Flood has been a life-changing experience for its authors, even
since 1961 when our book was published. My highly esteemed and long-time
friend, Henry M. Morris, co-author of The Genesis Flood, joins me in giving
praise to God for allowing our 550-page book to be published and I quote:
"The publication of The Genesis Flood made a tremendous difference in my
life, culminating in a change from engineering to full-time concentration
on creationism and Christian evidences."

John writes four pages. He disses the ID movement; he appeals to scripture for the YEC view.

BACK TO GENESIS: ICR, Prophecy, and the International Gospel

This is the last article by Henry Morris. He writes:
"There was an amazing prophecy left by the Lord Jesus Christ as He spoke on
the Mount of Olives shortly before His arrest and crucifixion. In response
to His disciples' question: "When shall these things be?" concerning the
end of the age, the Lord's reply included these words: "And this gospel of
the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all
nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:3,14)."

He writes of the "diluted gospel" (acceptance of geological ages) being preached. He writes
of the 125+ creationist books by ICR writers, and how many have been translated into other languages.
He writes of 300 radio stations carrying the ICR message in foreign countries. He writes of the Muslim world -- how the Koran teaches 6 literal days -- but their "deceiver god" is Allah, not the true God.

John Morris says he has some of Henry's unfinished manuscripts; he expects to publish
them in due time.

DR. JOHN'S QUESTION: When is a day not a day?

"Those Christians who hold to an extremely old Earth acknowledge that both
Scripture and history teach Abraham lived just a few thousand years ago.
Furthermore, chronologies in Scripture identify the time between Abraham
and Noah, and the time between Noah and Adam as a total only of a few
thousand years."

John Morris here argues the YEC case on the basis of the word "yom."

ICR RESEARCH. Larry Vardiman answers questions on the RATE project. Challenging the three assumptions of initial composition, later contamination and half-life consistency leads one to interpret the days as closely in agreement with YEC.

STEWARDSHIP: Teaching the Teachers

ICR has recently completed an intensive evaluation of its strategic focus
for the next few years and has just released an "Expectation" of the Lord's
supply to meet those goals. The article details four "key strategies."

1. Web based programs
2. A Creation Center in Dallas
3. A Christian school network
4. A mentorship program
---------------------------------------------------------------
A new book by Gary and Mary Parker, THE FOSSIL BOOK, is being published. The
theme -- fossils prove the young earth.

Upcoming RATE conferences:
Sat May 20 at the First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia
Sept 9 in Lancaster, Pa
Sept 30 in Dallas, Tx
