Perhaps you've been lied to as well? The second law applies everywhere,
not only to isolated system. Actually, I know you know that, but too many
people speak loosely and inaccurately by saying the second law only applies
to isolated systems. It perpetuates the misunderstanding. It's only the
tendency for entropy to increase that "applies only to isolated systems."
