The mystery of 'Israel' (was Re: Things that don't evolve)

Hi Gregory,

You ask for examples of things that don't evolve. The most significant for us Christians must surely be "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever." (Heb.13:8). However, there are others, and perhaps one example will suffice to explain what I mean.

The change of a name some 4000 years ago was to have interesting consequences - not least, the anticipation of a national emblem in our own day. I suggest the details provided at
http://www.whatabeginning.com/Israel defy all naturalistic explanation and serve to confirm God's promise to Jacob, "... in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed." (Gen.28:14)

Though this situation has its beginnings in God's words to Jacob, "Thy name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel..." (Gen.32:28), and while the immutable features of numerical geometry were already available to those with the wit the use them to some significant purpose, it required a further divine act to provide a convincing means for converting a name into a number, viz the Hebrew system of alphabetic numeration (introduced circa 200 BC).

Regards,

Vernon

  Subject: Things that don't evolve

In light of several conversations happening these days at ASA, the Alliance for Science which speaks of "the support for evolution among the 10,000 Christian clergy," and particularly the words of Ted Davis, who wrote last week that, "Yes, it is my view that evolution functions as a 'theory of everything.' Here I am defining 'evolution' very broadly to mean the 'modern creation story' as it is sometimes called," a question comes to mind as relevant.

Can someone give an example of something that doesn't evolve (into being or having become)? Are there any t hings that don't evolve?

Please note that I do not belong to an anti-evoltuion movement and neither do I support ID or the IDM. This question is meant to check if scientists at ASA can offer any kind of boundary or limitation for evolutionary theory. If not, one might be left to conclude that evolution is a 'theory of every thing' for many scientists.

What are examples of things that don't evolve?

  G. Arago
