  Dear Bob:

Please consider it dropped. I certainly don't wish to offend anyone by suggesting they help spread the good news of salvation through Christ to others. I'm sure we all do this. And if my remarks were offensive, I apologize.

  Dick,

You are being so assuming and judgmental. I do not respect what you are doing. You have gone too far, and are out of line. Please drop it, or I shall file a complaint with Terry.

    Hi Bob,

My point was not to disparage your friend. I was disparaging you. How deep is your faith if you can simply allow him to remain without God in his life. If we believe what the Bible says about those who die without Christ, (i.e. rich man and Lazarus) how can we be complacent and not reach out continually to someone to try and make God real to him to at least get him to think about it? Salvation is not to stick in our pocket and say, "Gee, thanks God, I'm going to keep this for myself and not ruffle any feathers and make someone feel uncomfortable by bringing the subject up." It's to share. And if we lose a friend in the process of sharing, better that than he loses his life through our silence. No, we don't "save" anybody ourselves. But we are obliged to make the effort to share what we know to be true. That's all.

It sounds as if you have already made up your mind, since you are putting atheists in the same category with serial rapists, and would not be amenable to getting to know a person like my friend. What God has in store for people like my friend is God's business, though it appears that you have made up your mind about that too.

My wife would be happy to have him and his wife to dinner; they were in our wedding party. They have been wonderful hosts to us.

If you are going to follow up, Dick, take care what you say about my friend. I won't tolerate any disparaging remarks. You've already gone far enough.

H'mmm, take an atheist home to dinner? "Hi, honey, I brought an atheist home tonight. I know, it was a cat burglar last night and a serial rapist last week ..."

And what does your friend say when you share the gospel with him? Or does God have a special place reserved for sweet, kind, compassionate, fair-minded, decent, non-believers?

Of course, why worry? There are no atheists in hell.
