Interestingly, together with knowledge of being created in the image of God comes the notion of knowing of one's mortality. I suppose one gets the latter from not only knowing God but also that God is a God of love. Do animals know they are going to die? Plain fear of death is not proof of knowledge of imminent or future death.

No special creation in the physical sense. But there has to be something unique about mankind, something that seperates us from animals; the "imagio dei."

But I will give you this, in a sense the main difference between us is the source of hte DNA. So, why is yours so much better? Scientifically the most likely explanation is that there was no miracle, no ape to resurrect, and we are simply evolved from the apes--no special creation at all.
