A message from Bud Bouma:
Dear Colleagues,
Subscribers to the ASA Listserve have many opportunities to present aspects of their work at the coming 61st Annual Meeting of the American Scientific Affiliation (ASA) to be held at Calvin College on July 28-31, 2006. The conference theme is "Embedding Christian Values in Science and Technology." If you haven't already, please give serious consideration to submitting an abstract to present as part of this exciting meeting.
Of particular interest to us all are the four plenary speakers and seven special symposia including "Human Stem Cells: Science, Ethics and Public Policy," "Stewardship, Conservation and Land Management," "Christian Values in Biotechnology," "The Teaching of Origins: Case Studies Studies and Pedagogy," "Science and Technology in Service to the Poor," "Christian Values in Engineering, Technology and the Physical Sciences," and "Science in Context: 'Putting Science in Its Place.'" Furthermore, there are general sessions, oral and poster, that provide a venue for virtually any scholarly work.
A Call for Papers with further descriptions of the symposia, proposed abstract guidelines and deadlines, and scholarship opportunities for early career scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students can be downloaded from www.asa3.org. The impending deadlines are:
.Monday, February 6, 2006, for most faculty
.Monday, February 27, 2006 for early career scientists, graduate and undergraduate students (also deadline for scholarship application)
.Thursday, July 13, 2006 for undergraduate students conducting research in the spring or summer of 2006 (also deadline for scholarship application)
A promotional slide show (PowerPoint pdf) about the conference and related field trips can also be downloaded and abstract proposals can be submitted from the ASA web site.
Please contact the Program Chair (Bud Bouma, boum@calvin.edu) or the ASA Office if you desire additional information.
