Personally, I lean toward Mosaic authorship or editorship, but anything
else would be okay with me. There is another book mentioned in the
Pentateuch as contemporary to the time of the exile, and that has
survived. Moses was clearly capable of writing as stated in
Deuteronomy.
 
Deut 31:26: "Take this book of the law and place it beside the ark of
the covenant of the Lord your God, so that it may remain there as a
witness against you.
 
Assuming Moses obeyed, where's the book? Why wouldn't it have been
preserved?
 
Further, the early chapters if Genesis resonate with Sumerian and
Accadian writing which can be dated earlier that 2000 BC. Many of the
words and phrases are identical. I have doubts that this would be the
case had the entirety of the Pentateuch been set down at such a late
date as suggested by Wellhausen.
 
To be sure, there appear to be sections of Genesis that come from
different sources. Use of Elohim versus Yahweh is the best example,
comparing Genesis 1 with Genesis 2 and following. But Moses may have
put them together or a scribe who served him.
