This statement (b) is absolute nonsense. As one who wrote an MS thesis and a Ph.D. dissertation that relied heavily on geochronologic data, I can assure you with utmost confidence that arguments for long timescales are NOT paradigm driven. They are driven by a wealth of chemistry and physics applied to natural earth materials.
