Just a couple of brief comments on a few of the threads:
Glenn, I like your approach on the defense of theism. As for the discussion on the eternal universe vs the universe with a beginning, I was reminded of Mortimer Adler's comment that the argument for the existence of God would be too easy if the universe had a beginning so he decided to assume an eternal universe. He felt if he could get that one to stick, it would be sound. WIth his subsequent conversion to theism and then Christianity, I guess it did stick for him.
GRM:I knew Adler became a Christian but I was unaware of the role that that argument played in it. Maybe I should go find a copy of that argument. Do you have a reference?
GRM:And thanks for the kind words about my wife's health. I will leave the ASA conference a wee bit early to go see my sons, their wives, and most importantly my wife. Living in China without her is not so much fun. But I do look foward to meeting everyone Friday and Saturday of the ASA conference. I will probably be a bit jet-lagged.
