As a newbie (was:Re: agreeing about a mere creation?)

I have often seen things I wanted to respond to or wanted to query but because I
was new and because many of you obviously have been here a while and know each
other I felt like the naughty boy at the adult party who should be not seen and
defintly not heard!

So I will briefly into myself. I am not a scientist nor do I work in the field
(I am usually a community development worker in asia) but ever since a child I
have had a deep fascination with science, religiona nd philosophy. Because we
moved a LOT I was often out of alignment with each school and ended up avoding
maths and sciences becuse catch up was enourmous.

Anyhow, that said and done...

I enjoy the views expressed here and the knowledge shared. What does disappoint
me is the acrabic and overly biting exchanges that sometimes happen - but then
thats par for the course in any list and I see that for the most part respect
here is mutual and shared even in disagreement.

Just one request (and maybe thats already taken place) - when i signed on I did
not know what YEC, ID etc etc were/are. I think I have figured it out but if
there was a site or source where people like me could check it out that would
be rgeat. Its confusing to see these letters thrown around without explanation.

For me I often struggled with trying to align conservative american 7 day
creation (I am not American btw) with what we know in science. Reading some of
the material on the ASA site was wonderful - I saw things differently and came
away with a profound shift in thinking and a new world view. Thanks so much for
that.

Just for the record one of my complaints with the literal 7 days creation is the
implication that God took a break for exactly 23 or 24 hours. Most conservatives
(when i ask them about that) say, "well thats not literal." To which i ask, "If
the 7th day is not literal why are the first 6?"

Thanks all

Iain
