A good sentiment for an ideal world. But in the real world we only have a
finite amount of time to read books. So when we find that the author of a
book has used shoddy scholarship with regard to a statement by citing an
obviously tendentious (in this case a polite way of saying "dishonest")
source then we may legitimately wonder how much of our time should be spent
on it.
