hypothetical question about Noah's flood

We've had lots of debate about the extent and location of Noah's flood. I would like to look at the question from a purely theoretical position, from an "old earth" creation standpoint. First, let's assume that a global flood occurred 6,000 to 10,000 years ago. We will ignore the size of the boat and the animals and other logistical details and look only at the earth science side of the problem. What would cause the "waters of the deep" to flow to the surface? How could we have a global, cataclysmic flood that did not destroy a boat of any size? Also, the global, cataclysmic flood left the mountains and valleys basically intact. Noah floated in the boat for another 18 months or so. What happened to all the animals and people? Did the bodies have time to decompose? How would the fresh water quality been affected? How did fresh water begin to flow again, if it ever quit? How much erosion/sedimentation would have occcurred during the flood? What type of sediment loa
 d would
we expect to be deposited? Would there even be enough sediment deposited to notice?

I have many other questions. Please feel free to add to mine and answer.
