In the interview in the AMS Notices Gardner says that when he was in high
school he went through a temporary phase of considering himself an
evangelical Christian due to the influence of a Sunday School teacher who
was also a counselor at a summer camp that he attended. He also says that
there was a period in which he was doubtful about evolution, mainly
because of reading Price's book.
