Ted, the odd thing is that I don't even necessarily think the ID guys are
right. That's why I call my blog the Post-Darwinist, not the Anti-Darwinist
or the ID-ist or something.
(I'm fairly sure Darwin was wrong, but that does not make Behe right.)
This I know is true: Darwinists attack the ID guys because the ID guys have
rattled the Darwinists.
Given how powerful the Darwinists are, that is a significant achievement.
I consider that part of my responsibility as a media person is to point out
key elements of stories.
A key element of this story is that - to the extent that Darwinists know ASA
exists - ASA is taken for the ID guys.
I think Johnson's explanation of that fact is correct, but won't pursue it
further.
Here's when I will know ASA is making a difference: Darwinists are attacking
ASA the way they attack ID, and mixing Dembski's position up with Miller's,
so Discovery Institute is writing a clarifying letter to Nature. Lemme know
when that happens.
Note to all who question my credentials: I have never pretended to more or
less than a journalist.
Cheers, Denyse

Finally, Denyse, let me add this. At the end of my article in the current
issue of American scientist, I point out that religious scientists and
science journalists are the ones who may prove most important in helping
people understand/see how science can be interpreted religiously. We in the
ASA (including Bill Dembski, Steve Meyer, Mike Keas, and others in the ID
movement) are in this category, and so are you. My plea to you directly, is
that you not allow the politics of the movement to obscure the truth. You
do not have to agree with those of us in ASA who have not been persuaded by
the ID argument, but surely you discern how strongly we differ with Dawkins
and company, and how many of us are not ashamed of public roles that give
witness to Christian truth in our lives and work. Does that not count for
something signficant? Would it not be helpful to the larger cause of Christ
to help people see those stories and to tell the larger narrative to which
we give voice? Are you able and willing to show some discernment yourself,
in writing about these important issues?
Blessings,
Ted
