Michael, in you recent reminiscence of the time spent in the Department of Geology at Oxford you conclude, "But nonsense was not allowed and it never should be - hence ID and YES (sic) can't be taught."

But you would surely agree that what you regard as _nonsense_ may make perfectly _good sense_ to the next man, and vice versa; and that whatever is currently under discussion needs to be assessed cooly, honestly and _objectively_. For example, I had occasion a week or two ago to point out that the universally accepted evolutionary sequence, reptile --> bird, is contradicted by the words of the Creator - who, allegedly, masterminded the whole evolutionary enterprise! According to Him, birds were created on Day 5 (Gen.1:20-23), and reptiles on Day 6 (Gen.1:24-25). Don't you find this inversion of events rather telling? How is it possible that an Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent Creator _forgets_ the order of His doing things?! Clearly, for the Christian, the idea is ludicrous! He will surely prefer to ask the more pertinent question: Did God _really_ create using evolution?

While I understand you are no longer an evolutionist I'm sure the foregoing observations will be of some interest to you - if only because they appear to highlight a fatal flaw in TE thinking. Do you think your friends are aware of this "skeleton in the cupboard"? If so, one wonders why it is never declared and properly addressed? You might care to join me in pressing them for an explanation.
