RE: Mangroves buried fast, reef above it took a long time to form

>ED: Catastophes include tsunamis, earthquakes, tidal
>waves, volcanic eruptions, and portions of land rising
>or falling. No geologist doubts such things happen.
>Neither does modern geology deny such things. Modern
>geologists are actualists, which includes catastrophic
>explanations for certain strata, and long term
>sedimentation for other strata, depending on the
>nature of the evidence. So even though the mangroves
>beneath the reef were flooded and died
>catastrophically, the reef above it was formed slowly
>over a lengthy period of time.

Josh: Yes, a period of time which cannot be older than the forest beneath
it! My specific interest is in the fact that this forest was buried in a
time frame similar (roughly- here's where a geologist should step in) to
when Noah's flood might have happened. I'm not interested in the overall
age of the earth, but whether this forest might give any indication to the
time and nature of the flood recorded in genesis. Did Australia's "shelf"
sink or is a substantial portion of the earth covered with water as compared
with pre-flood times? Is there any relationship there or not?
