And, as I've said recently here, the statement Jack reminded us of can very
easily be read as an endorsement of the "teach the controversy" position
that folks at the Discovery Institute are pushing. Indeed, some ID thinkers
in the ASA helped to write the statement. But I agree with the statement as
written, in fact for a couple of decades I've advocated teaching evolution
"warts and all," that is evolution as a scientific theory with explanatory
successes and unsolved problems. At least partly, that is what is meant by
"teach the controversy," at least as I understand what my friends in Seattle
say.
