teaching evolution

There are several misunderstandings in this, especially in Christian's
understanding of evolution.
Granted that most American evangelicals reject evolution and the vast age of
the earth, there is a long tradition in the Chrsitan churchs which is open
to all this. In the early 19th century many pioneer geologists Sedgwick,
Buckland Conybeare, Henslow , Hitchcock were Chrsitans and in those pre
darwinian days had no problem with the age of the earth. After 1860 most
educated Chrsitans soon accepted evolution.Problems came in the USAafter
World War one. They were amplified by the rise of Young Earth creationsim
after 1961.
You seem to be thinking in a binary way either "evolution" or creationism as
from a literal interpretation ofthe Bible.A literal interpreetation is a
minority view and less so today than at any other time since the 16th
cnetury.so long as we think the alternatives are evolution according to
Dawkins and creationism according to AIG and ICR there is a conflict, but an
unneccessary one.

Many of the articles on the ASA site www.asa3.org will support this.

Sadly only one country in the world allows the teaching of YEC as science
and that is Great Britain. This happens in the Vardy-sponsored high schools
in North east Engalnd. Our prime minsiter is too stupid to realise what is
happening
