John,
I'm sorry, I was mostly joking about worrying being
a sin. In a sense it is because it means we are not
trusting in God, but we all suffer from this disease.
I think you need to let go a little bit. It is important
to make a mental note of the range of ideas. It is also
important to consider the implications as well, but these
matters take time to sort out. The issue of predestination
and free will has been with us for a long time. Yes,
science can look (and should look) at these issues and
models will inevitably be created. But thrashing around
in the deep waters wastes your energy if you don't have
a clue what direction to go to find land. Though you walk
in the valley of the shadow of darkness, know also that we
only see through the dark glass dimly. In the end, it is
the quite whisper that will be the true voice of God.
If you read the article, you can see that it is not fact,
it is an idea and needs to be tested. But even if it is
largely true, it is dangerous to think of the mind as
algorithmic.
We want the best picture of reality, but just because one
physicist says this or that, the matter must be sorted out
first and that will take time under any circumstance.
So try to get some rest and don't worry, just have faith.
It is your faith that will save you, not your knowledge.
Only fools and charlatans have an answer for everything.
by Grace alone we proceed,
Wayne
