I agree here with Goerge. I have gone back to the Vedic hymns to find Agni a mythical god who brings the self sacrifice to man by sacrificing himself. So there are precursors to Jesus 4,000 years old, but there is no figure in history who said he would sacrifice himself and who we know actually made the self sacrifice but Jesus Christ on the cross.
The Buddha intuited the self-sacrifice, but he didn't make it.
I don't think there's any historical feat more sigificant than that we understand the nature of that self sacrifice.
