Christ does preach law & in doing so often deepens what is said in torah but
he does not fundamentally change it & present a new "Christian law." E.g.,
what he says about looking at a woman lustfully in Mt.5 is also expressed in
the Decalogue as "you shall not covet your neighbor's wife" (Ex.20:17). &
even though "love one another" is called a "new commandment" it is not
essentially different from "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"
(Lev.19:18). In his role as preacher of the law Jesus does not say anything
fundamentally different from Amos, Ezekiel, or the other prophets of Israel.
