How do we know all the niches are filled? If the dramatic slowing and niche filling idea were true, wouldn't something have evolved to take the place of each extinct species?

Wouldn’t the “rapid explosion of speciation” have slowed dramatically to its current pace after the earth was repopulated and all the niches filled?

This is true. It is ironic that the YEC scenario calls for massive macroevolution on a much faster time line than even biologists do. And if all this rapid explosion of speciation took place after the flood why did it all of a sudden stop? But if you want to start reciting YEC inconsistencies where would we stop?
