I don't know whether or not there are other versions of the gap theory.
The one I know about is what is contained in Scofield's notes. He said
that the fall of the angels caused animal death (his explanation of
fossils) but that plant seeds survived.

I am not aware that in the days of the widespread use of his
reference Bible Scofield was vilified for believing in death before
the fall of man.
