That is what I think, when I read some postings like the above. I have
often said, that the Lord wrote the beginning of Genesis to non-modern
non-"scientific" people, who did not yet lthink like modern N.American
scientists. The LORD did not want to teach them science, but he LORD did
want them to know Who created them, even when HE did not tell them yet
how. But God does show in His creation, when HE talks to modern day
scientists that HE did it, even when they want to deny HIM. HE is still
busy creating new plants and even new kinds.

Trying to convince anyone of the fact that Gen. 1-11 is not written in
modern day English is difficult. As difficult as it is to try to convince
them that indeed, yes, it is true that the language of "Adam" and even
Abraham and Moses is different from any modern language and any modern way
of thinking. Consequently using a "literal" reading of the Bible in any
modern language to teach any type of modern science is impossible.

See now I answer for the so-maniest time the accusation that we do not want
to listen. We do, but we do never get any thorough reply to why we think
that the old Babylonians thought differently than we do, and thus God spoke
to them in their language. He still does speak to us in His Word in
Scripture and His Nature which He created.

If interested read the report of a committee of the Christian Reformed
Church to its 1991 synod about these matters. It is a long report and it
took two to three years to write by a committee, which members are and were
certainly not always thinking the same way. Of course, we do not repeat
ourselves year after year. If one does not want to listen, we will not
force anyone.
