Are any of you familiar with the work of Spencer Wells? I just attended a
lecture he gave in Boca Raton. He's a geneticist, has a PhD from Harvard,
is a National Geographic Fellow which is where he works, and is the author
of "The Journey of Man". He claims his work so far indicates that the human
ancestral male lived 60,000 years ago in Africa when the population of the
world was limited to 2,000 people living only in Africa. After that time
began the migration to the rest of the world. He noted the unsolved problem
of the ancestral female, "mitochondrial Eve", being dated at 140,000 years
ago. His talk was fascinating. I just wondered if any of you could comment
on the quality of his work and to what degree his results are accepted in
the scientific community.
