I believe ASA should vigorously oppose any egregious breach of "fidelity to the Word of God and a commitment to integrity in the practice of science" whether it may come from YEC, OEC, ID, TE, RFEP, or whatever.  Just because our organization does not advocate any particular position on issues relating to science and Christian faith doesn't mean that all viewpoints must be considered equally valid and appropriate for discussion.  The scientific method is rigorous enough to allow us to differentiate between pseudo-science and an evolving body of scientific knowledge. Interpretations of God's Word may be less well-defined but there are still clear orthodox bounds.  Certainly there are gray zones where one person's "difference of opinion" may be another person's nonsense.  But a lot of the material circulating in this field is way out of bounds and we all have a responsibility to aggressively oppose it.

Of course we can oppose some of this stuff such as "flood geology" for example as individual members, but can we do it as an organization in a united front?  And that is not to say we can't, but do we have the guts for it?  And who would draw up a position statement spelling out what we find egregious?  Would we just say what scientific matters don't pass the smell test or are there certain religious elements we also find unsavory?  And how would we all agree to it?
